Comments on Long Island Iced Tea:I've tried a number of variations and I like the one by MadMixologist. I.E. the above recipe without the Tequila. I found an old drink recipe book of my grandfathers it has a Long island recipe containing rum, gin, vodka, tequila, a splash of vermouth triple sec, and coke. The traditional Long Island Iced tea contains all 5 of the "clear" alcohols. and don't forget the cherries That's a tough one MadMixologist. It likely varies depending on the bartender or locale. The International Bartender's Association lists the "official" ingredients as Vodka, Tequila, White Rum, Cointreau, Gin, Lemon juice, Gomme syrup and cola. The version of Texas Tea I'm familiar with gets the "Texas" from adding Bourbon. This is a common mistake, by adding Tequila it is actually making this drink a Texas Tea not a Long Island Iced Tea. A Long Island is Vodka, Gin, Rum, Triple Sec, sweet n' sour and a splash of coke. |
