Slane Irish whisky and Magners cider, apple or pear. 4 oz of whisky in a highball glass, fill with cider and enjoy! Those using anything but Irish whisky may be having an enjoyable cocktail but they certainly are NOT having a Johnny Jump Up.

It is true that the real Johnny Jump up is a just a high proof Cider. But it is hard to find. The Whiskey is a good substitute and easy to find and mix. and a word of warning: Its not for the weak of heart. It will sneak up on you before you know it.

The best (and truly Irish) is 4oz Jameson Whiskey and 16oz of hard cider (Magners if you have it). A Real kick for a true Celt.

Try fireball whiskey with either Stella cidre or Strongbow. it's very delicious. It tastes very much like the taste of fall and it has the kick

Woah woah woah woah woah....it is not Jack Daniel's whiskey...it's Jameson. It's an Irish drink of cider (I prefer Woodchuck, myself) and Jameson.

It's Good as a hot cider too. 75/25 or 50/50 Cider/Whiskey. Heat the cider first then at the whiskey. An Irish Whiskey is a must.

Why on earth would anyone use Jameson's? Sure and it's famous, but it's famous like Everclear is famous. For a good, yet affordable, Irish whiskey, use Bushmill's. Much, MUCH better. And I combine a shot of Bushmill's with a bottle of Angry Orchard hard cider. The combination is gorgeous.

Y'all are NUTS....the only way to enjoy a johnny jump up is with Maker's Mark and Dicken's Cider... Man, on a cold winter's night there's NOTHING like curling up with your babe and having your Hard Dicken's Cider...

@Herman, Not every person can distill 40 proof cider in their basement, so they have to settle for next best.
